GM Recalls Continental Tires On Certain Models
Overview
General Motors, LLC (GM) has issued a safety recall on certain Continental tires that were installed as original equipment on several 2018-2021 model vehicles. According to the tire manufacturer, Continental Tire the Americas (CTA), the affected tires may have an overcure condition and Continental has initiated a safety recall for these tires.
The affected tires may experience a carcass break in the sidewall with sudden air loss or could develop a belt edge separation which could lead to a partial or full tread/belt loss. Tires may experience a sudden air loss without warning while others may exhibit visible localized tread wear which may manifest as excessive vibration and/or bulging in the tread area. Either condition can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
GM has identified certain vehicle models involved. They are as follows;

The affected Continental tires were also sold under the brands Barum, Continental, and General Tires. The tires were sold, either as original equipment tires, replacement tires, or are in dealer inventories.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued this safety recall on February 25, 2021. The NHTSA estimates that there are approximately 93,000 tires potentially affected by this recall. While the recall isn't expected to begin until April 12, 2021, consumers can go to the NHSTA Recall Site to get more information. The NHSTA recall ID number is 21V115.
Remedy
GM will notify owners by mail beginning April 12, 2021. Dealers will inspect vehicles and replace tires that have DOT number and production mold number combinations identified by Continental, free of charge.

Checking Your Tires
If you suspect that you may have one of these affected tires, you should check your tires immediately. Checking your tires involves inspecting the tire sidewall for manufacturing information. The mold number, in parenthesis along with the last four numbers in the Department of Transportation (DOT) stamp (Date Code) indicate if the tire is involved in this recall.
